How to use Directr
Seven simple steps. No editing experience needed.
Start editingOpen the editor
Click the big “Start editing” button below. You’ll see a box that says “Drop your video here”.
Add your video
Drag your video file from your computer onto that box. Or click “browse your files” and pick it. On a phone, tap the box and choose a video from your camera roll.
Tip: Videos can be up to 50 MB. Most phone clips under 2 minutes are fine.
Wait a few seconds
Directr watches and listens to your video. When it’s ready, it tells you what the video is about and suggests a few edits.
Tell it what you want
Type what you want in plain words at the bottom, then press Enter. You don’t need any special words.
- “Make it ready for TikTok”
- “Add captions”
- “Cut out the pauses”
- “Make the captions yellow”
- “Find the best moments and make clips”
Tip: Not sure what to type? Tap one of the buttons above the typing box, like “Make it TikTok-ready”.
Watch your edit
Directr edits your video. This usually takes under a minute. You can watch the progress on the video. When it’s done, it plays the new version.
Change anything you don’t like
With Pro, just say so: “make the text bigger”, “use a different caption style”, “remove the first two seconds”. Every change makes a new version, and the old ones are kept. Tap “Version 1”, “Version 2” and so on to switch between them. (The free try includes one edit.)
Tip: If a caption word is spelled wrong, tap “Fix captions”, correct the word and save.
Download it
Tap the pink “Download” button. The video saves to your computer or phone, ready to post.
Common questions
Is it free?
You can try it once for free: one video and one edit. After that, Pro is $9 a month for unlimited videos and edits.
Do I need an account?
You can try it without one. To render and download your edit, make a free account. It takes a few seconds with Google.
Where are my old videos?
Click “Profile” at the top. Every video and every edit you’ve made is there, with download buttons.
How long are my videos kept?
30 days. After that they’re deleted to keep your account tidy, so download anything you want to keep.
My video won’t upload.
It may be over 50 MB. Try a shorter clip, or export it at a lower quality from your phone or editing app.
The edit isn’t what I wanted.
Tell Directr what’s wrong in your own words, like “the captions cover my face, move them up”. It will fix it.
